48.7% polling reported in Mysuru; CM arrives to cast his vote

Even as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah arrived at the helipad at Lalitha Mahal Palace in Mysuru on Friday to cast his vote at the Gram Panchayat elections, polling was reported to be brisk and crossed 48 per cent by 1 p.m.

By 1 p.m., a total of 6.87 lakh voters out of the eligible 14.12 lakh voters, accounting for 48.7 per cent, had cast their votes for the elections to 266 Gram Panchayats in Mysuru district.

Polling, which began at 7 a.m. across 1,916 polling booths in the district, was brisk and was approaching 30 per cent by 11 a.m. A 95-year-woman, along with others, cast her vote in a polling booth in Hinkal on the outskirts of Mysuru, on Friday. Officials said polling was peaceful throughout the district.

Mr. Siddaramaiah is scheduled to cast his vote in his native Siddaramanahundi in the afternoon before returning to Bengaluru, officials said.
