45 degrees Celsius heat drives Kalaburagi residents indoors

Maximum temperature hits a high of 45 degrees Celsius

  The State’s highest maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius was recorded in Kalaburagi according to the recordings of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.

The Hyderabad Karnataka and Bombay Karnataka regions continued to be under severe heat wave conditions with the mercury rising at an alarming level in most parts of the region.

The IMD has warned that same conditions will prevail for the next 48 hours. Bidar, for the first time in recent years, has recorded 44 degrees Celsius, Raichur 43 degrees Celsius and Vijayapura 42 degrees C.

Mercury on the rise

The maximum temperatures recorded in Kalaburagi and Bidar was 5 degrees Celsius more than the average temperatures recorded in the region in previous years.

The temperatures recorded in Raichur and Vijayapura was also 3 degrees Celsius more than the average temperatures recorded on the same day in previous years.

Other parts of the Hyderabad Karnataka region, including Ballari and Koppal were also under the spell of heat wave conditions with both the regions recording 40 degrees Celsius maximum temperatures.

There was a sudden spurt in the maximum temperatures in Bombay Karnataka region also, with Gadag recording 39 degrees Celsius, followed by Bagalkot at 38 degrees Celsius maximum temperature.

Night temperature

The night temperature also rose in the Hyderabad Karnataka region with Bidar recording the State’s highest minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, followed by Kalaburagi at 29 degrees Celsius and Raichur and Ballari 28 and 27 degrees C, respectively.

Deserted

The oppressive heat in Kalaburagi city forced the residents to stay indoors most of the day, and except for the main roads, the interior roads wore a deserted look.

Brisk business

Fruit juice stalls and tender coconut sellers did roaring business in the city and outskirts on Thursday.
