30 poll code violation cases in Hassan district

The Hassan district administration has so far registered 30 cases in connection with the violation of the model code of conduct which is in force in view of the urban local body elections, scheduled for Thursday. Of them, 28 are related to illegal storage of liquor.

Deputy Commissioner K.P. Mohan Raj told journalists here on Tuesday that the Excise Department registered the 28 cases and eight people had been arrested. Superintendent of Police Amit Singh said the police had booked two cases in Hassan for violation of the model code of conduct — one in ward no. 19 of the city municipal council and another in ward no. 26.

The elections to 177 wards of the eight urban local bodies in the district will be held on Thursday. As many as 747 candidates are in the fray. Of the 306 polling booths, 30 have been classified as sensitive and 42 hypersensitive, according to Mr. Mohan Raj.
