The Karnataka Mines and Geology department will set up 30 check posts all over the State from April 21 to curb illegal mining, officials said.

This follows the Supreme Court appointed Committee’s recent findings on large-scale illegal mining in Bellary district, they said.

The check posts will examine iron ore permits issued by the mining department, tax receipts and quantity being transported from the mining regions of Bellary, Sandur and Hospet, they said.

Five vigilance groups have also been constituted to monitor iron ore transported to Karwar, Mangalore, Belekeri and Goa and Andhra Pradesh ports, they said.
