Over 280 assistant teachers have been promoted as headmasters of Higher Primary schools in the district. Counselling for these teachers, who have been promoted on district seniority basis, was held at the NTMS School here on Tuesday.
It may be recalled here that the government had decided to promote assistant teachers as headmasters based on their seniority to appoint them at the higher primary schools, which have more than 60 students. Earlier, headmasters were posted to schools that have more than 120 students.
H.R. Basappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, told The Hindu that of the 280 teachers who were promoted, 144 attended counselling and 26 were absent. As many as 110 teachers refused the promotion for various reasons.
Mr. Basappa claimed that Mysore was the first district in the State to prepare a list of teachers eligible for promotion after the government issued the order. There are 995 government higher primary schools in the district.
All promoted teachers would be posted in the C zone in the district, he said and noted that all rural places fall under this zone. It is mandatory to work in C zone schools for at least five years for teachers who have been promoted, the DDPI said.
