The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysore, will confer the highest number of graduate and postgraduate degrees on women candidates at its 12th annual convocation here on April 4.
In all, 14,206 candidates, out of the total 26,108 who will receive the degrees, are women. Also, 11,902 men will be conferred degrees at the convocation, which will be held at Kalamandira at 4.30 p.m.
As many as 13 candidates, including four women, will be awarded doctorate degree. The university will presentgold medals to 36 candidates and cash prizes to 23 students.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, KSOU Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa said Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, who is also Chancellor of the university, would preside over the event, and Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Pro-Chancellor, would grace the occasion.
Renowned scientist Roddam Narasimha, who will be the chief guest, would deliver the convocation address.
He said the honorary D.Litt. degree would be conferred on writer and former Vice-Chancellor of Mysore varisty D. Javare Gowda; professor emeritus, Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, K.J. Rao; the former Director of the Institute for Social and Economic Change G. Thimmaiah; member of the Planning Commission and the National Advisory Council Narendra Jadhav; PES Trust founder-president H.D. Chowdaiah; and the founder-chairman of SA-MUDRA Foundation K.E. Ramakrishna.
This year, the highest number of candidates who will be conferred degrees belong to humanities. A total of 10,112 candidates, including 6,335 women and 3,777 men, will receive the degrees at the convocation.
