Ballari will soon join the list of cities which are getting 24 x 7 drinking water supply.
The Ballari City Corporation will enter into an agreement with New Delhi-based SPML Infra Ltd. for the purpose. The project will have to be completed in two years from the date of entering into the agreement, official sources told The Hindu .
The project is being taken up under the North Karnataka Urban Sector Improvement Project (NKUSIP) at an estimated cost of Rs. 136 crore – Rs. 68.77 crore for the project and Rs. 67.33 crore for operation, maintenance and management services for a period of five years.
Official sources said that the all the 35 wards in the city having around 69,159 connections would be covered under the scheme.
Relaying of internal distribution net work up to around 300 km, installation of meters, construction of new overhead tanks wherever necessary and providing connectivity to existing overhead tanks would be taken up under the scheme. “SPML Infra Ltd., after completing the project, will have to operate the system besides maintaining it for the next five years,” an official said.
