With Assembly elections just 10 months away, the State Cabinet on Wednesday approved a ₹800-crore proposal of the BBMP on white-topping 24 major roads in Bengaluru.
Briefing reporters on the Cabinet decisions, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra said the works would be implemented under the package system. Good quality roads, which are free from potholes, would be provided, he said. He, however, did not reveal the list of roads to be white-topped.
The cost of white-topping is almost double that of asphalting with bitumen. White-topped roads eliminate the annual cycle of redoing and filling of potholes. The technology has been adopted on a stretch of NICE Road.
Even as many major roads in the city are being upgraded under the TenderSure model, he said 24 major roads would be upgraded to ensure smooth drive for motorists. Currently, many major roads of the city are damaged owing to poor quality of execution and potholes owing to rain.
