As many as 220 Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission and meant for distribution to the registered voters, was found in a dustbin near the city court on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner Ramegowda told The Hindu that there were 220 voters ID cards which he personally collected and handed over to the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner P.G. Ramesh, instructing him to conduct an inquiry.
When contacted, Mr. Ramesh said revenue officials of zone no. 1 have been issued a notice and asked to reply by 24 hours failing which action would be initiated against them.
He said the voters ID cards are handed over the revenue officials for distribution in their respective jurisdiction. All the cards found in the dustbin belonged to zone no. 1 of the MCC.
“When I questioned the officials, they gave vague replies”, said Mr. Ramesh.
“We will wait for their reply before taking action”, said Mr. Ramesh.
Meanwhile, an inquiry has also been ordered to ascertain as to how Voters ID cards meant for distribution found their way into the dust bin.
All the cards belong to registered voters in Krishnaraja constituency, according to Mr. Ramegowda.
