The Kannada Book Authority on Saturday released 22 books authored by 22 fresh writers under its annual book promotion scheme for the year 2007.
Speaking on the occasion, KBA chairperson Siddalingaiah said that the objective of the scheme was to tap and encourage literary talent in the rural and urban areas. Persons who have not crossed 35 years of age and not published any literary works are eligible to avail themselves of the benefits of the scheme. The KBA would invite manuscripts from the writers, and a special committee would select the manuscripts for publication. It would also give a cash incentive of Rs. 8, 000 each for all the selected writers under the condition that each writer should donate 25 copies their works, he said.
The selection committee had scrutinised over 60 manuscripts and selected 22 of them. Interestingly, majority of writers were on keen on composing poems, he said.
Secretary of Kannada and Culture Department B.R. Jayaramaraje Urs, Director Manu Baligar were present.
The books selected under the scheme are: Malatesh Urs, Satish S. Kakhandaki, Mamatha. R., Sridevi Keremane, Mangala Prasad, Priya M. Kallabbe, Auditya, Srinidhi D.S., M. Indresh, Deepa Hiregutti, Siddu Devaramani and Sannaveeranna H. Doddamani (collection of poems); Akbar Ali and Davana Homesh (novel); Tukkappa R. Jadage (play); Saidama B. Soolikeri, H.R. Shivakumar and Kodibettu Rajalakashmi (short stories); Sushruta Dodderi (essays); Sabanahalli Shashidhar (nursery rhymes)); Nandisha Hanche (literary criticism)( and Mallikarjun C. Bagaodi (art).
