Jagadish Shettar will be sworn in as Karnataka Chief Minister on Thursday, along with 31 Ministers, including BJP State president K.S. Eshwarappa and R. Ashok, who will become Deputy Chief Ministers.
Though the swearing-in ceremony was originally scheduled for Wednesday, the BJP put it off by a day, after supporters of the outgoing Chief Minister, D.V. Sadananda Gowda, demanded that the Ministers be sworn in along with the Chief Minister.
The decks were cleared for the 57-year-old Shettar’s elevation on Tuesday, when he was unanimously elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party. The election took place amid high drama and a swift rebellion by Mr. Gowda’s supporters, who wanted the party leadership to commit itself to conceding their demands as a precondition for their attending the Legislature Party meeting. This delayed the meeting by five-and-half hours.
Mr. Shettar’s name was proposed by Mr. Gowda and the former Chief Minister, B. S. Yeddyurappa, and seconded by Mr. Eshwarappa.
Mr. Gowda will meet Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Wednesday to submit his letter of resignation. The Governor will also be informed of Mr. Shettar’s appointment as Legislature Party leader, BJP’s central observer Rajnath Singh said.
As the post of the State BJP president will become vacant after Mr. Eshwarappa becomes Deputy Chief Minister, a new leader will be appointed within a week in consultations with central leaders, sources said. Mr. Gowda’s supporters have been demanding that he be appointed to the post.
Even as the anti-Yeddyurappa camp has been demanding that three Ministers owing allegiance to him be sacked for their alleged involvement in scams, the sources said all 21 Ministers of the present Cabinet were likely to continue.
Mr. Shettar will be the third Chief Minister of the BJP, which came to power four years ago. His efforts to become Chief Minister about a year ago failed when Mr. Gowda defeated him in an election for Legislature Party leader.
Mr. Gowda became the Chief Minister on August 4, 2011 after Mr. Yeddyurappa was asked to resign following his indictment in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.

Beautiful. The drama in Karnataka, is probably finishing, at last
chosing a new leader. God save them at least. It is high time for
the central leaders of BJP to think and take proper action against the
selfish leaders in the state and take advantage of the honest workers of
the party to save its existance in the South. Good luck to the new
group.
With this kind of politics and administration(not only in Karnataka but also in AP(3 CMS changed)) one can understand from outside India, what the standard of life for a common man in India?. I do not forsee any major change/growth of public unless we have good leaders rule states with honesty, accountability and integrity and no party in India has these qualities now. Indians are living in sad state o affairs and this story is an example for it.
The BJP Govt in Karnataka has shown the way. No state in India
required 2 DCMs.
why everyone this much bad thinking about yedduyarappa?? he made great effort to build bjp in the state from last 40 years, becoz of his single handed effort bjp came to power, but congress and jds cannot digest this fact, becoz of congress and specialy jds propaganda this much mess happened in karnataka, so this is right decision from bjp highcommand for change in leadership in order to comeback to power in coming election, congress and jds are same pace of either side of coin
Karnataka has set the stage for other states to follow...Soon we can expect 2 or more Deputy CMs! in other states as well!
Two DyCMs for karnataka...Funny. Yeddi is playing worst politics in karnataka. Shame on yeddiyurappa.. And finally third party will win the elections next year except BJP 100%.
When more than half of the state is reeling under drought and the public are going over the economic turmoil, these politicians are hankering for every opportunity to loot the state. They are even fighting for the post of a deputy CM. It is funny that the BJP cannot manage its own house and has to create two deputy CM posts to keep the different factions at bay. Deputy CMs are normally given only in coalition governments, and that too - only one deupty CM.
Where are here the Reddy and Ananathkumar factions? There might be four deputy CMs - Reddy, Yeddy, DVS and Ananthkumar factions getting one each.
Shame we go on changing CMs to meet party rival sections ! and now 2 deputy CMs; why not provide 5 CMs and 20 Dy CMs and another 50 Asst Dy CMs and satisfy all groups !! Very sad trend in politics; no one party is now trustworthy; all values thrown to winds; we are forced to think our grandfathers were right when they said even British rule was better, even though they made money,it was done openly; now all ways of cheating public and amassing wealth in foreign banks become a fashion and passion; :God alone can save India from these greedy leaders !
ha aha funny Karnataka... New CM looks like brother of Mayavathi....and his face says that, he has lost his walking remote in Yeddi;s hands....This people think only about CHAIR & MONEY... Grow up Kids.... do something for the state n country....
Within hours shettar will break free of Yeddy. Now the BJP has an alternative Lingayat
leader in Shettar. Yeddy has become a spent force. Master stroke by BJP. Yeddy has
practically walked into a trap.
How many days he will continue to be the C M? A month? Certainly he cannot dance to the tune of Yeddy and his band,Renuka and others. He too has to face the same fate, which Sadananda Gowda has suffered. Let us wait for the drama, which finally has to lead for elections pre -poned, to weed out the dirty, the present caste politics, brought in such an ugly, monstrous form by this Yeddy, for his sinister gains
It is sad that a good leader has to step down because of the mess in the party..It is hard to call any political party secular !!
If BJP really wanted to do well in Karnataka then they should kick out the broker like Yeddyurappa.Who is creating the problem for BJP always.
Shame on Bribing Janata Party, clueless & spineless...already lost 2014 elections now!
I would request the people of Karnataka not to vote again to this party
and also this bunch of Jokers and Corrupt netas,
please boycott them
Agree with Shekar's comment. it has became a unbearable drama. Its hard
to recall when these guys met last time to think about developments.
Mr. S. Gowda, fight till the end to teach a lesson to Mr. Yeddi who is
power hungry and failed to give clean governance. If he is allowed to
have his way again, BJP may surely lose next general election. It is not
at all justified to remove you at this juncture. Mr. Yeddi is afraid,
if you are allowed to continue, he may lose his position for ever.
BJP has lost all its credibility. BJP was shouting all the time that it is secular party where as it has shown that it is also on the cast ism. I have lost all faith in this part and I am ashamed of voting this party for last 20 years. why the hell BJP did not expel this corrupt person in the beginning?
Horse trading has begun. Welfare of the state has been put in the back burner and the individual interest have come to the fore. All because of BJP leadership's spineless catapulation to the Yeddurappa camp. Sadanand Gowda, if he really believes in the welfare of the state should reccommend the dissolution of the house and seek fresh mandate. And this time around weed out the mining mafia, the Co-operative culprits and the individuals who have cases pending against them. Yes this will take away a bulk from the current BJP leadeship, at least gives a chance for the second tier leaders to prove their mettle.
I support BJP. But I think BJP needs to close the shop in Karnataka. The
party is now full of power-hungry garbage
Unless there is a mid term poll, the crisis will not end. Let the voters of Karnataka who are
the victims of the shameless casteists who in the garb pf serving the people , are busy filling
their own and their cronies' packets sacrificing good governancedecode who should be
elected and who should be dismissed permanently from the state politics!
BJP should have never allowed Yeddyurappa to have his way. Now BJP is in a bigger mess. BJP has paved the way for the Opposition to win easily in the coming assembly elections.
