175 new Army recruits take part in attestation parade

An attestation parade for new recruits to the Army was held at Talekar Drill Square of the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre campus here on Saturday.

As many as 175 recruits of Group 5/15 were attested on the completion of their training and would soon be report for duty. The parade was commanded by Sepoy Pankaj Jagadale while the Parade Adjutant was Major Rohit Jatain.

MLIRC Commandant Brigadier Pravin Shinde, who reviewed the parade and later addressed the newly attested soldiers, reminded them of the rich heritage and the glory of the Maratha Light Infantry.

He also stressed upon the importance of discipline and physical fitness in a soldier’s life. On the occasion, the young soldiers took oath in the presence of the tricolour and regimental colours to serve and protect the motherland even at the cost of their lives.

Later, Mr. Shinde presented medals and trophies to the recruits for excelling in different spheres of training. Naik Yeshwant Ghadge (Victoria Cross) Medal-Trophy and Col. R.D. Nikam Trophy for Overall Best Recruit were awarded to Pankaj Jagadale.

He was also awarded the Subedar Honorary Captain Keshav Rao Talekar medal, the Col. N.J. Nair medal and trophies for his outstanding performance both in Drill and Field Craft.

Major S.S. Brar Medal and Trophy for Physical Training was awarded to Shrikant Bhosale.

Maheshbhai Rathod won the Sucha Singh Memorial Cup and Trophy for Outdoor Activities, Vishwanath Mate was awarded Namdev Jadhav Medal and Trophy for Firing.
