1,432 fake currency notes seized

The Kestur police have busted an inter-State counterfeit currency racket on Monday night.

The police intercepted a car and arrested five persons, who were allegedly transporting counterfeit currency notes with a total face value of Rs.9.59 lakh. The police seized 486 currency notes of Rs. 1,000 each, 946 notes of Rs. 500 each and a car from the accused, a senior police officer told The Hindu.

The accused have been identified as Ajmir Pasha, Srinivasa Nayak and Sheiksab Fakruddin of Ananthpur in Andhra Pradesh, Srinivasa Reddy from Bengaluru and Nandish from Ballekere, near Channapatna of Ramanagaram district.

They were travelling from Mysuru to Bengaluru, when the police stopped their vehicle near Adigas Hotel on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, the police said.

All the five were produced before a local court in Maddur on Tuesday.

While Srinivasa Nayak and Nandish were handed over to the police for further interrogation, three others were remanded in judicial custody. Police personnel would visit Andhra Pradesh, Mysuru and other places for investigation.
