Fourteen major road works, covering 760 km are currently being undertaken in Karnataka at a cost of Rs 6163 crore, according to a report by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC).

In the next two years, 14 major works under the National Highway Development Project in an aggregated length of 1562 km, with an investment of approximately Rs 9,127 crore have been envisaged, it said, quoting a report handed over by Union Minister Communication and IT Kamal Nath to the organisation.

Under National Highway Organisation works, as on March 2009 there were 153 number of works in progress, of which 43 works amounting to Rs 124.53 crore have been completed till Dec 12.

There are 127 ongoing works with likely cost of completion of Rs 899.52 crore. Seventeen works costing Rs 139.33 crore have been sanctioned during 2009-10, it said.

Under the special projects category, eight projects on NH13, 206 AND 234 have been envisaged, with a tentative investment of Rs 1905 crore, which includes World Bank assistance.
