12 trees felled on Tumakuru City Corporation premises

September 30, 2017 11:04 pm | Updated 11:04 pm IST - Tumakuru

Twelve trees were felled on the premises of the Tumakuru City Corporation in the early hours of Saturday. The trees are said to be over 50-years-old. They were cut to make way for construction of a new building of the city corporation.

Former councillor K.P. Mahesh alleged that though there was a stay order given by the JMFC court in Tumakuru on the tree felling, they have been cut. He alleged that there was other space on the premises to construct the building.

‘Replant trees’

Mr. Mahesh said instead of cutting the trees, they could have been replanted.

He said a protest will be held at the Town Hall Circle on October 3.
