Ballari district received its first welcome rain of the year. The pre-monsoon showers which began at around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday continued till the early hours of Thursday. Again it rained on Thursday morning for about 30 minutes. The showers brought a lot of relief as it brought down the temperature considerably.

The showers were widespread throughout the district.

However, rain brought miseries too in its wake. As many as 12 head of sheep died after being struck by lightning in Hagari Kyadagi village in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk. The sheep belonged to Hanumanthappa and a case has been registered in the Hagari Bommnahalli police station.

In Ballari, low-lying areas, including the underpass at Satyanarayan Pet, were inundated with storm water, causing inconvenience to road users.

Meanwhile, around 40 tonnes of chilli kept for drying became damp after it started raining. Around 25 tonnes to 30 tonnes of chill in Dammur, Somsamudra, Siddamanahalli and Kolur have become damp, while around 10 tonnes in Agasnur and Sirigeri in Sirguppa taluk have been affected by rain.
