108-day global art carnival concludes on a high note

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Kochi:

The Kochi-Muziris Biennale’s 108-day second episode officially ended on a high note, with a scintillating performance by the Delhi-based music band, ‘The Ska Vengers,’ at the Durbar Hall ground here on Saturday.

However, the art carnival — which showcased works by 94 artists from 30 countries across the continents and logged a visitor count of 5 lakh — will have the venues open for visitors till Sunday evening.

Governor P. Sathasivam, the chief guest at the closing ceremony, commended the biennale for promoting free artistic invention and invoking the cosmopolitan legacy of the modern city of Kochi.

He said the biennale, which inherited and propagated the rich cultural and artistic history of Kerala, mirrored the latest global trends in contemporary art.

Culture Minister K.C. Joseph said the State government’s financial situation prevented it from extending better support to the biennale.
