G. Kumar Naik, Managing Director of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited, has said that necessary steps have been taken to supply power during the summer by using 50% of electricity produced in the State and 30-40 % from the State’s share in the Central grid. The KPCL also decided to purchase power from private producers, he added.

He was talking to presspersons at Shaktinagar, near Raichur, recently.

“We are committed to supplying power to industries, farmers and others,” Mr. Naik said. A tender has been floated to establish a power plant at Godhana village in Jagnir Champa district of Chhattisgarh. KPCL aims to generate 1,600 MW power from the proposed project, which is likely to be started functioning soon after the coal block was allocated, he said.

He said that instructions have been given to recover ₹3,750 crore due from Panchayati Raj bodies and for making a payment of ₹1,500 crore due to coal mining companies.
