The Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswati, was rushed to a private hospital here on Sunday after he complained of drowsiness and weakness.

“The Swamiji is recovering and his condition is stable. He is better now and his sugar levels are a little low,” said doctors at the Jayabharat Hospital, where he was admitted.

He has been in Nellore since last Wednesday, performing religious rituals at the Sankara Mutt.

The 79-year-old Swamiji was brought to the hospital after he experienced giddiness. Sleeplessness for the past three days and fluctuations in sugar level might be the reason, said Dr. C.V. Subrahmanyam.

Cardiologist Bhaktavatsala Reddy, neuro-physician Umamaheswara Rao and a host of other doctors were attending on the Swamiji.
