Kamduni villagers to meet President, seek CBI probe

July 10, 2013 12:16 am | Updated June 04, 2016 05:47 pm IST - KOLKATA:

Residents of Kamduni village in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district plan to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and seek a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the gang rape and murder of a 20-year-old college girl there on June 7.

“I have arranged a meeting of the villagers with the President. They will arrive in New Delhi on July 15,” Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury told The Hindu over telephone from New Delhi on Tuesday.

Last month, he had assured the villagers of an audience with the President while visiting the victim’s family. Mr. Chowdhury, however, won’t be present during the meeting.

The incident has become a rallying point for people protesting against growing atrocities against women in the State.
