Kalmadi cites delay in trial, seeks bail in CWG case

January 07, 2012 02:32 am | Updated November 17, 2021 05:09 am IST - New Delhi:

The former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi, an accused in a Games-related graft case, on Friday sought bail from the Delhi High Court on the ground of delay in start of the trial in the case against him.

Mr. Kalmadi's counsel Mukul Rohatgi argued before Justice Mukta Gupta that “only charge sheet has been filed, while charges are yet to be framed by the Special Court. The likelihood of commencement of trial in near future is not there.”

He also pleaded for bail to Mr. Kalmadi on the ground of his failing health as, he said, his client has been suffering from various ailments including cardiac problem.

Mr. Kalmadi's custody was no more required for probe in the case as the CBI had told the court on November 3 that its investigation was complete.

The court adjourned the matter for Monday.
