The Judicial Magistrate First Class II (special court hearing cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act) on Thursday rejected the bail application of three students of the Al Qamar College of Nursing, Kalaburagi — Krishna Priya, Athira and Lakshmi — accused in the alleged ragging incident in which a Dalit student from Kerala was forced to drink toilet cleaner.
Magistrate M. Premavathi heard the plea of the prosecution and the defence on Wednesday and turned down the plea of the defence rejecting the bail application. The three students were arrested by the Kalaburagi police on June 24 and remanded in judicial custody.
Kerala HC adjourns pleaThe Kerala High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on an anticipatory bail petition filed by Silpa Jose, also a student of the Al Qamar College, in connection with the case, to July 8.
When the petition came up, Justice P. Ubaid asked the government pleader to get instruction in the case from the government and make a submission. In her petition, Silpa Jose of Kaduthuruthy said she learnt from the media that the police would arrest her in connection with the incident.
