Kabul cannot fight terror alone: envoy

"I am glad to see the new Prime Minister, Mr. Modi, say ‘zero tolerance for terrorism’, but that’s a big word. It will need action and cooperation"

Afghanistan is stepping up its request for military and training assistance from India as the pullout date for NATO forces approaches.

In an exclusive interview to The Hindu , Afghanistan’s Ambassador to India, Shaida Abdali, admitted that “Afghanistan doesn’t have the defence it needs” to fight “proxy-terror groups” and said India and Afghanistan must strengthen their strategic cooperation.

“I am glad to see the new Prime Minister, Mr. Modi, say ‘zero tolerance for terrorism’, but that’s a big word. It will need action and cooperation,” Mr. Abdali said.

He, however, ruled out the need for any foreign troops on the ground, including from India.
