The condition of Marxist patriarch Jyoti Basu, who is being treated for pneumonia at a hospital here, was stable on Saturday.

“Basu’s condition is more or less stable and doctors are trying to check his pneumonic infection,” 95-year-old Mr. Basu’s personal physician A K Maity told PTI here.

Since Mr. Basu is too old, it would take some time to control the infection, he said.

The veteran leader was on Friday admitted to AMRI Hospital here with chest congestion and infection. A thorough examination had detected slight pneumonia.
