External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Ministers of State Gen. V.K. Singhand M.J. Akbar with Judith D'Souza in New Delhi on Saturday.

Indian social worker, Judith D'Souza who was abducted by gangsters in Afghanistan and safely arrived in Delhi on Saturday, was “tortured” during captivity, said BJP national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi.

“We all are aware how women are treated by terrorists and Judith's experience was no different. In the interaction that I had with her, she narrated how she was tortured and humiliated. Even for simple things like going to the toilet or going to bathe, she was exploited and humiliated,” said Ms Lekhi after her meeting with Ms. D'Souza.

Not sexually harassed

Sources, however, said that the abductors did not sexually harass her.

The Bharatiya Janata Party MP from New Delhi also said that 40-year-old Ms D'Souza was ‘overwhelmed’ to see the love and care extended to her by the government.

“She is shocked at the turn of events that happened in her life but is happy that she is alive. Judith has expressed gratitude towards the government and people of the country for extending all the love, care and support for her rescue,” Ms. Lekhi added. Ms. D'Souza did not speak to the media when she arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday evening.
