The mother of the woman journalist, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by former Tehelka Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal, said in a complaint to the Delhi Police on Tuesday that on November 22, Mr. Tejpal’s daughter Tiya visited her East Delhi house and made enquiries.
The journalist herself had >said a member of Mr. Tejpal’s immediate family went to her mother’s house in the Capital on the said date and demanded to know who she was seeking legal help from and what she “wanted” as the result of the complaint against Mr. Tejpal.
Although the police did not divulge the contents of Tuesday’s complaint made at the Pandav Nagar police station, senior officers confirmed that the victim’s mother corroborated the earlier statements made by her daughter.
“The complainant told us that Tiya reached her house around 8.30 p.m. on November 22. She added since the visitor was known to her as a friend of her daughter, she let Tiya in. Tiya then questioned the complainant about the people the journalist was in touch with and whether she made the allegations under someone else’s influence. She also wanted to know about action the journalist was contemplating,” said a senior police officer. Tiya also wished to speak to the victim who was then in Mumbai. At this, the complainant made a call to her daughter, but she refused to speak to Tiya.
According to the police, the journalist did not talk of intimidation of any nature and prima facie no cognisable offence was made out.
