The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said the militant attack on a Jammu and Kashmir Minister in Srinagar proved that the prevailing situation in the state does not allow withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
“The present situation in J&K does not allow withdrawal of AFSPA. The recent militant attack on cabinet minister Ali Mohmmad Sagar in Srinagar is the latest incidence which proves that both AFSPA and army should continue in the state,” BJP national executive member and legislator Ashok Khajuria told reporters here.
He alleged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his father and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah and Mr. Omar’s uncle Mustafa Kamal have been demanding revocation of AFSPA from JK with the motive to malign the image of armed forces.
On December 11, Mr. Sagar escaped an attempt on his life by militants who attacked his entourage, as he entered his ancestral house in Srinagar, killing one of his security guards.
Charging the ruling NC of failing on all fronts in meeting the aspirations of the people, Mr. Khajuria said Mr. Omar has no right to stay in chair and should immediately resign.
“Omar-led coalition government has totally failed on all fronts in meeting the aspirations of the people. Omar has no right to stay in chair and should immediately resign in the interest of the state and the country,” he said.
