BJP MP Ram Jethmalani on Saturday criticised his party’s attack on the government over the appointment of the CBI Director alleging that the move was “instigated” by the “most undesirable rival”.
Mr. Jethmalani also had a word of praise for the government action in the appointment of Ranjit Sinha as CBI Director and contended that the decision “for a change, has averted national calamity”.
“...I was astonished to read that the BJP has attacked the Prime Minister and the Congress party for what the party calls the fast tracked appointment of Mr. Ranjit Sinha as the Director of the CBI,” the veteran Parliamentarian said in a letter addressed to BJP president Nitin Gadkari, copies of which were marked to the Prime Minister and the media.
“I regret that this criticism is a result of complete ignorance of relevant facts and has been instigated by a most undesirable rival who had to withdraw his petition before the CAT yesterday as a result of the appointment,” Mr. Jethmalani said.
Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, Leaders of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha respectively had written letters to the Prime Minister, saying that appointment of the new CBI Director should not have been done when the Rajya Sabha Select Committee had recommended that such appointments should be done through a collegium.
The Prime Minister had rejected the BJP’s demand to hold in abeyance appointment of Mr. Sinha as CBI Director and termed as “unwarranted” insinuation the charge that the decision was to preempt the procedure recommended by the Select Committee on Lokpal.
“The rival has powerful friends everywhere who do not know what a disaster it would have been if he could manage to become Director of CBI in place of Mr. Sinha,” Mr. Jethmalani said.
Mr. Jethmalani said he would send to Mr. Gadkari documents to show how the government action “for a change, has averted a national calamity.”
“I have to request you to ensure that these critics from our party refrain from further comments till they know all the facts. I claim to know the facts from my own knowledge,” he said.
Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar had approached the Central Administrative Tribunal against the government’s decision to not consider his name for the post of CBI Director but withdrew his application after the appointment of Mr. Sinha.
Mr. Kumar had moved the tribunal aggrieved over non-inclusion of his name among the three officers shortlisted by the Central Vigilance Commission for being considered for the post of the next CBI Director.

Since last two days, leaders of Gujarat bjp are not letting the house
work for as silly reason as asking an apology from Shaktisinh Gohil. Why
should Mr.Gohil apologies? And who is bjp to ask for an apology? Did
Modi government apologies to the governor for running a state wide
campaign? Did Sushma Swaraj and her team apologies to p.chidambaram? Did
Arun Jetaly apologies for questioning the high court?
National leadership of bjp stalled house and did not allow p.chidambaram
in last parliament session of alleged his involvement in 2g case.Later
the patiyala court suspended the entire case against p.chidambaram.
While at one side Narendra Modi did not appoint LOKAYUKTA in Gujarat
for 7 years, the other side they opposed the governor who used her
special powers in appointing the LOKAYUKTA for the sack of 6 crore
gujaraties. Bjp could not digest this legal moves by governor and run
a campaign across the state against the governor. Even the national
leaders of bjp stalled the house for 3 days. The most shameful and
anti democracy move came by bjp when senior leader ARUN Jetaly said
'the high court of Gujarat is doubtful'after Gujarat high court
supported governors decision to appoint the LOKAYUKTA.
The point is, BJP, as the main opposition party wants a say in the
appointment of the CBI director. But looking at the kind of person they
have appointed as the party president, and as the minorities commission
chairman (Namdhari)probably it is better as Mr. Jethmalani says that
they don't have a say.
