At two a.m. on Saturday, the pilot of Jet Airways flight 9W 540 from Mumbai to Muscat reported that while pushing back the aircraft from bay 85, the airplane's wing tip brushed the tail fin of the adjacent parked aircraft of Kingfisher Airlines on bay 84.

Both aircraft have been grounded and the matter is being investigated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The pilots and the ground staff are being questioned.

Stabiliser hit

A Jet Airways spokesperson said the Boeing 737 was being pushed back when the wing hit the stabiliser of the Kingfisher plane parked in the next bay. The engines were not on. There were 122 passengers in the Jet flight.

Jet Airways said in a statement: “In a ground incident at Mumbai Airport on October 23, the left wing of a Jet Airways Boeing 737 during push-back, hit the stabiliser of an aircraft of Kingfisher Airlines. The incident is being investigated in coordination with the authorities. Passengers on board flight 9W 540 to Muscat were flown to their destination by another aircraft.
