JD(U) wants rebels disqualified

June 23, 2014 01:18 am | Updated 01:18 am IST - PATNA:

With the dissidents deciding to intensify their campaign, the Janata Dal(United) leadership on Sunday decided to come down with an iron hand on four of them who have been identified as the real trouble-makers.

The JD(U) proposed to the Assembly Speaker Uday Narain Chaudhary to terminate the membership of Gyanendra Singh Gyanu, Ravindra Rai, Rahul Kumar and Neeraj Singh Babloo for allegedly persisting with anti-party activities.

Enquiry into cross-voting

The JD(U) chief whip, Shrawan Kumar, who conducted an inquiry into the cross-voting by a section of the party legislators, briefed the party leadership on the issue.

He identified 18 members as having violated the party line and voted in favour of the two independent candidates they had sponsored in the by-elections to two Rajya Sabha seats.

The party leadership directed Mr. Kumar to approach the Speaker to take action against them.
