With little likelihood of normal functioning of Parliament when it resumes on Thursday, as the Bharatiya Janata Party is unrelenting in its demand for an explanation from the Prime Minister on the missing files in the coal blocks allocation, the Janata Dal (United) asked the Congress and the principal Opposition party to sit together and find an amicable way out of the impasse.
JD(U) president Sharad Yadav made the appeal after Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath telephoned him regarding the repeated disruption of Parliament and sought his party’s cooperation to break the deadlock.
Since the JD(U) broke ranks with the BJP over the ascendance of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the BJP’s pecking order, the Congress has been quietly working behind the scenes to get the JD(U) on board in the passage of some key bills.
“Parliament is not running because of the Congress and the BJP. Other parties raised some issues for a while but they did not want to block business. The two national parties are not serious about running the House. Instead of meeting everybody else, what is really required is that the two sit together and resolve the issue,” Mr. Yadav said.
