A day after backing former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma’s candidature for the Presidency, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday asked all parties to “rise above political considerations,” and support the tribal leader for the top job.
“I now appeal to all political parties to rise above political considerations and support Sangma and ensure that he becomes the next President of India,” she said in a statement here.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said yesterday that Mr. Sangma “not only belongs to a tribal community but is also eminently qualified to be the President of our great nation.”
“During the past 60 years of the Republic of India, while eminent personalities belonging to various communities and diverse walks of life have graced the office of the Rashtrapati, no one belonging to a tribal community has had the opportunity so far,” she had said.
Ms. Jayalalithaa had held consultations with her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik besides within her party before announcing her support to Mr. Sangma, who himself had called on her on May 15.

It's very Good step taken by Naveen Patnaik and Ms. Jaylalitha that nominate a person who is Anti congress and not have reliable retionship with BJP. Yes I am agree with other readers who is not supporting a person from politic back ground but in the same time if P. A. Sangam will not fight then like previous, again congress will bag the president post.
We need a scientific person, who knows politics also. Who should be
dominating the other corrupting politicians. Who must concentrate on whole
India, not only a specific religion, caste, political party or a
particular region.
An ideal person who has the capacity to retain India's image in the world politics and respected by the majority with a good background of procedural democratic administration of the nation in all the spheres of supremacy and fairness only recognised be the constitution . Let us pray the decision may be very fair and wise and not to confuse with too many options for higher hierarchy to a political decision of simple majority of electing one for the exalting position. God bless the nation towards prosperity,oneness and fairness.
PA.Sangma issue is not confined to whether he is selected or not,but
Sharad Pawar has ignored him and failed to convince him when he
aspired for the post of President.So he want to prove his
popularity.PA.Sangma is not only a tribal leader,he represents North
Eastern states of India.He need not be elected,but he should be listened and cared for atleast by Pawar his party chief.,being a Mehalayan,a border state with China.He simply ignored him.PA.Sangma can be easily ignored,but tribals can not be ignored or north eastern states can be ignored.Whether Sangma win or loose,but the impact will cause so much concern for India in the days to come.The Congress, the
BJP and Pawar failed to recognise his right to be heard and considered for selection.Another headache from north eastern states is stored for India.
Please do not bring CASTE & RELIGION inbetween to select President of India,

Chief Mininster is really having a good heart towards Sangma citing his community. Another acting by Lespian Jaya and now she is in dream world to become next Prime Minister of india. She should realize that all noth indian political leaders are not idiots like AIADMK perty cadres.what a shame to Tamilnadu?
Than thinking emotionally, that Mr. Sangma belongs to a tribal
community so we have to elect him for the top job. Lets decide to
elect him on the basis of his physical, mental, value levels
eligibility.
It is indeed a sad commentary on the spate of affairs in our Union.
Leaders who have had their time and voluntarily chose to lead a
retired life suddenly awakening to the call of occupying a high office
of the land is certainly bizarre. It leads to be viewed with contempt
by the common man as it brazenly exposes how these icons are not
immortal but made of clay. Sangma 's image has now taken a battering
and despite his claim of integrity there is no doubt that he is
avaricious and greedy. What can he impart as President of India who is
only a figurehead except rake in taxfree salary, luxurious perquisites
and rove the world at taxpayer's expense. He has already in the name
of tribal upliftment ensured a place for his daughter at the Centre
besmirching his flaunting of uprightedness ! There are many tribal
leaders who do more for their society than Sangma ever did or can
enjoying a life of fine repast !
Mr PA Sangma is an excellent choice by any standards for the post of President. As the Tamil Nadu CM says, now all parties must make this happen as a reality. But,for his raising,some years back,the issue of Ms Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin for the post
of Prime Minister,the Congress may not have objected, as it now appears to be.
This is a very respected post and require person of high stature irrespective of his political background, caste, creed, hence in my opinion the statement that a tribal leader should be given the opportunity this time to take this post should not be considered while supporting any candidate.We should Try to make decisions without taking caste & religion into consideration.
