Jawan killed, another injured in landmine blast at LoC

An Army jawan was killed and another injured when an Improvised Explosive Device believed to be planted by militants went off along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The blast took place this evening when the Army personnel were patrolling along the LoC in Balnoi area of Poonch, a Defence spokesman said.

Akshay Godbole and Shubam Khadadkar were injured in the explosion and rushed to a hospital, he said.

Jawan Godbole, who was critically injured, succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The condition of Khadadkar was stable, he said.

The operation was launched to sanitise the area, the spokesman added.

As per the reports, it is believed that militants might have planted the IED to target the Army patrol along the LoC.
