The BJP has nominated Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Environment Prakash Javadekar for a Rajya Sabha berth from Madhya Pradesh. The seat fell vacant after Mr Faggan Singh Kulaste was elected to the Lok Sabha.

The election is scheduled for June 19. Earlier, Mr. Javadekar could not be nominated from his home state of Maharashtra after the party offered the berth to its ally Ramdas Athawale of the Republican Party of India (A).

The party also nominated its leader Prabhakar Kore as its RS nominee from Karnataka. There was speculation that Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman could be the party’s choice from the State. She is now likely to be nominated from Andhra Pradesh.

The BJP has also decided to field Mr. K.S. Eshwarappa as the nominee for the State Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) in Karnataka.
