A delegation of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and other Muslim leaders on Friday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and set a deadline of one month for the government to implement job reservation for Muslims. The JUH added a warning that if “no positive steps” were taken within the month, it would resume the agitation it had suspended in May 2010.
The JUH reminded Ms. Gandhi of the Congress' promise to introduce reservation for Muslims, and of her own earlier assurance that this matter will be speedily addressed. According to JUH general secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani, Ms. Gandhi said her party is “certain and determined” in this regard, and also that the government was moving swiftly to address the problem. Upon this the delegation told the Ms. Gandhi that it was on her word that they had suspended their agitation in May 2010.
