The Union government must make public the list of people suspected to be involved in the Koda scandal, especially as the election process in Jharkhand is on and the people have the right to know, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said on Monday.
Two former Ministers have been arrested and charge-sheeted; the former Chief Minister, Madhu Koda, is under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate and the Vigilance Department; there is a buzz that many more politicians are involved in the scandalous network, which is being slowly unveiled; and it is time the government made public the list of suspects, he said.
Mr. Jaitley said that so far it was the media that was digging out something based on leakage of information from the Enforcement Directorate, the Income Tax Department and others. It was time the government came out with official information. People had the right to know so that they would not vote for those involved in the scam.
Instead of trial by the media through insinuation and leaks, the government should let the people know where the investigations stood and whose names were thrown up as possible links in the long criminal chain of people who might have together, or through a criminal conspiracy, looted the people of Jharkhand, he said.
He hinted that there was a buzz about some prominent "Congressmen" being part of this criminal chain. This made it all the more imperative that the government set the record straight.
