Criticising the petrol price increase and the proposal to limit supply of LPG cylinders, Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Friday said the UPA leadership had run out of ideas, and it was time for mid-term elections.
In a press release, he said the UPA government had failed on all fronts: industrial production slumped from 14 per cent to a mere 3 per cent in the past few months; interest rates had gone up, discouraging long-term investment and causing a sharp decline in the capital good industry; and inflation was already in double digit.
“It is clear, therefore, that the UPA government has no time for fresh thinking and the spate of revelations of monumental corruption in every possible department of activity of the government makes it clear that it is futile to expect any improvement in the situation. Therefore, the best solution for the nation now is for mid-term Lok Sabha elections asking the people to give a mandate for a new economic policy to steer the economy away from the precipice,” he said.

Dr.Swamy is always right. It's time the opposition parties shed their egos, opportunism etc., to make way for Dr.Swamy to assume PM of this country. This is the least these political parties do for this"poor" politically bankrupt country to hold on to the man who can only save India at the crossroads of Indian history.Indians had tried with every possible combination & every political entity failed to give results.
A pragmatic and bold statement by Dr Swamy in his own inimitable style. It comes on a days when the UPA government itself has confessed to have lost its credibility in the recent months, therefore, to have constituted a GoM to suggest a climb upwards solution. Further the present ministers are in intestine quarrels. Ms Natrajan Vs Anand Sharma; earlier Sibal and PCC stood hostile to whatever the crisis solving team did with Anna`s demand; Rahul right royally making provocative speech despite the fact that PM earlier recognized Anna`s crusade to reflect the voice of the people; the congress spokespersons, each one of them talking in different wave-length; the best gauge for the UPA is to get subject to a fresh scrutiny of the people.
