It is for Pakistan to reciprocate: Sharma

August 02, 2012 01:30 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:21 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Stating that India had taken the step forward for achieving shared prosperity and economic growth with its neighbour, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma on Wednesday said that it was now Pakistan’s turn to reciprocate by opening up new land trading routes.

“We have taken steps to create an environment which will help towards bringing stability and peace in the region. Now Pakistan should implement its part of the roadmap and open new land trade routes and also allow the items in the positive list to be traded through these routes including Wagah border. It should also expand the scope of items to be traded through the land route,’’ he said.

By allowing investment by Pakistan citizens and companies in India, we have exhibited our resolve to stick to the roadmap decided between the two countries, he added.

Mr. Sharma said India was only taking forward the process of strengthening the economic engagement under the roadmap drawn up last September and taken further during his visit to Pakistna in February.
