Arshid Qureshi and Rizwan Khan, the duo arrested from Mumbai by a joint team of Kerala Police and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, were brought to Kochi on Sunday for interrogation in connection with a case of forceful religious conversion.

The duo, suspected to have Islamic State links, was flown to the Nedumbassery airport in a special aircraft under tight security cover around noon and taken to the Kalamassery armed reserve camp.

Duo questioned

Several top officers of the police, including Range IG S. Sreejith, questioned the duo the whole day at the camp.

Official sources said investigations so far had revealed that Qureshi had converted several persons, including those from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Religious class

Some of the Keralite youths missing from the State had attended a religious class by Qureshi at his residence in Mumbai.

Qureshi is expected to be taken to an Islamic study centre at Vytilla as part of evidence collection and will be produced before the Ernakulam District Sessions Court on Monday.

While Qureshi had been arrested earlier this week from Navi Mumbai, Rizwan Khan was held from Kalyan on Saturday.

The Kochi city police had registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Qureshi along with Palakkad-native Yahiya alias Bestin Vincent.

This after Ebin Jacob (25), brother of Merin who is missing along with her husband Yahia, gave a statement before the police that the duo forced him to get converted to Islam and join the terrorist organisation.

During a raid last week, the police reportedly found that Qureshi had received e-mails from the computers at the Islamic Study centre, attached to the Salafi Masjid at Vytilla.
