Without taking the name of Mr Modi, she said: "I would like to ask you. Is someone who makes tall claims and speaks lies fit for the PM’s post?"

A day after Narendra Modi accused her of resorting to “rabid communalism”, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday hit back asking whether someone who “speaks lies” was fit for the PM’s post.

“Our party believes in communal harmony. We believe in uniting the country and not dividing country.

“I would like to ask you. Is someone who makes tall claims and speaks lies fit for the PM’s post?” Ms Gandhi told an election meeting here, without taking the name of Mr Modi, who had yesterday targeted her over meeting the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in Delhi.

“The country has many serious issues to deal with,” Ms Gandhi said.

Apparently referring to Mr Modi criticising the Congress on corruption, Ms Gandhi said it was a serious issue and if any party had taken steps to curb it than it was the Congress.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, she said the Congress had also taken several development steps and programmes to strengthen infrastructure.

“No country has an act equal to the Food Security Act, which ensures grains at subsidised rates and protects children from malnourishment, while the MGNREGA gives employment opportunities,” she said.

The Congress had brought the Forest Rights Act also to protect the interests of the tribals, Ms Gandhi said.

Referring to Maoist violence in Jharkhand, where 20 out of 24 districts were affected with left wing extremism, Ms Gandhi appealed to them to give up weapons and return to the mainstream.

“Violence is a big impediment toward the progress and development of the country. I appeal to my brothers and sisters to return to the mainstream,” she added.

From 2004 UPA is using lies to stick to power through Sri
Manmohan Singh. If that is OK then BJP can also rule.

One who cannot accept different communities cannot rule India. Let the
so called people ask apology from the muslim community for the 2002 as
congress did it for 1984. He who want only hindus in India cannot become
a political leader

Enough of Modi bashing. Its time we give someone who has proved to be an able administrator, a chance. Whoever is trying to instigate the people at large, is running short of words.

We need to take this beautiful country - stripped of everything - to the next level.

Wonderful indeed that a sick person like Sonia Gandhi can put in
tremendous effort so that Congress party wins majority seats to sustain
its rule in parliament & paving the way for her son Rahul to become PM
of largest democracy in 2014? If every Indian mother/father take a leaf
out of this and guide their children for better education, Character &
discipline, things in future India would be splendid.

See who is speaking..
Madam says she has assets of 9 Crores. Her 10 Janpath house will cost
much more than 9 crores.
Better to have a PM who atleast speaks, rather than having someone who
is silent for the last 10 years.

If a person cannot speak a word and is just a mere puppet can be the PM
for 10 years then a person who is free and determined and decisive and
delivers good should definitely be.

Good Try - Agreed that Modi might have lied, but can you say you never
lied? there is no less than 100 issues, on which you & congress members
have lied. unfortunately, our current PM can not be pulled in this
argument, while he never speaks! leave alone lying or not lying.

Soniaji has rightly proved that she is a leader of quality in
democracy. Such a leadership quality is missing from Narendra
modi,Sushma swaraj , Arun jaitely ,Rajnath Singh ,Venkaiah Naidu and
others. At this juncture the congress should have named as Prime
minister candidate. Poor politicians did not tolerate her leadership
and vested politicians had raised that she is a foreigner. Now also
many old generations feel that British administration was good than
the the present Indian administration. No punctuality in Indian
administration and no truth in our leaders. Our leaders still made our
citizens as slaves to our bureaucrates. The judiciary never attempts
to save our democracy and living with its own conventional ideologies.
It wasted public exchequer for disproportionate asset cases of our
leaders in our country but none is in jail. The principle followed in
contempt cases in respect of State's Chief secretaries is not equally
applied to Sahara chief.

Why in the first place she meets Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in Delhi.
Let the war of words stop between Congress and BJP. Congress is the
root cause for sponsoring communalism by calling the Hindu cultural
and social organisations as communal oriented. Congress as a
Nationalist party should stop this electoral partition politics at the
cost of destroying the unity of the Nation. It is better that Heads of
Religion stop issuing certificates for one or the other party. Let
them confine their service to preaching love, amity, brotherhood,
tolerance and good conduct for the benefit of this great nation.

This woman astonishes anyone with common sense what the Congress men and women
find in her. She says Congress fights corruption, really? Congress and corruption are
synonymous. It was her mother-in-law who justified political corruption and made it a
qualification to be a politician. If there is a single wrong in politics which can not be traced to
Congress and this family, that will be a wonder - dynasty in politics, demoralising
bureaucracy, making institutions subservient, honouring sycophancy, divide and rule,
amending foreward to the constitution.....This lady who has no knowledge of Indian culture of
thousands of years, got a lateral entry into Congress, using the family name hijacked it. She
and her family with Congress should go if democracy has to take root in India without
