Is it sincere, asks Khurshid

September 20, 2014 12:42 am | Updated April 20, 2016 05:23 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s observation in a >television interview that “Muslims will live and die for India,” the Congress on Friday wondered whether his party would adhere to this view.

Asked to comment on Mr. Modi’s remark on Muslims, the former External Affairs Minister, Salman Khurshid, said at the Congress briefing, “One cannot complain that he said it but one certainly can enquire whether this is a sincere voice coming from his heart and certainly enquire whether he checked with several of his senior colleagues which includes the BJP president, the Gorakhpur MP and the likes of Giriraj Singh.”

Mr. Khurshid also questioned the timing of the remark; wondering whether it had anything to do with Mr. Modi’s upcoming visit to the U.S.
