A representative on behalf of the Irish Consulate took possession of 28-year-old Danielle McLaughlin’s body on Saturday, Canacona police said.
The Irish woman was found in a field around 150 metres from the main road at Devbag in Canacona on March 14.
On March 17, an autopsy report conducted at the State-owned Goa medical college hospital revealed that she was raped, hit on her head and then choked to death.
Vikat Bhagat, a local history-sheeter and prime suspect in the case, was arrested by Goa police on March 14 night. Bhagat has been remanded in police custody for seven days till March 21.
The police said they are interrogating the accused in their custody, who is facing charges of rape and murder.
