Close on the heels of the latest International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report which alleged that Tehran had conducted secret experiments with the purpose of developing atomic weapons, following which the United States had sought to mobilise world opinion against Iran, India has taken the position that the issue of Iran's Nuclear Programme should be dealt with diplomatically.
In an hour-long meeting with U.S. President Barrack Obama, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit here, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spelt out the Indian view on the contentious subject. The Indian officials who briefed the media on the interaction between the two leaders maintained without elaborating on the context that the issue figured “in passing”.
Senior Indian officials are hopeful that a resolution “acceptable to all concerned” on the report, perhaps barring Iran, would be worked out very soon at the IAEA Board.
