The Supreme Court-constituted Committee to probe spot-fixing charges in IPL matches, held a sitting here on Thursday to solicit views of persons connected with the game, and who had knowledge of the allegations.
A release said, “The Committee on 18 December 2013 interacted with K. Srikkanth and Sundar Raman.
“Gurunath Meiyappan and his counsel appeared before the Committee on December 19 and handed over a letter exercising his right to remain silent.
“The Committee on December 19 interacted with the authorised representatives of India Cements Limited, N. Ram of The Hindu and N. Srinivasan, president, BCCI.
“The Committee will interact with T.S. Raghupathy, executive president, Chennai Super Kings, R.K. Raghavan, former director of the CBI, S. Ravi, international umpire and Ravi Sawani of BCCI Anti Corruption Unit on December 20 and 21, 2013 in Chennai.”
The Supreme Court on October 7, had suggested that a committee, headed by the former Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mukul Mudgal, be constituted to probe spot-fixing in IPL matches involving Mr. Meiyappan. Additional Solicitor-General L. Nageswara Rao and BCCI member Niloy Datta were named as its members.
The terms of reference of the committee were to enquire into the allegations of betting and spot fixing in the IPL matches against Mr. Meiyappan, allegedly the team principal of Chennai Super Kings, India Cements Limited and the players and the team owner of the IPL franchisee Rajasthan Royals (Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited); and the allegations against Mr. Meiyappan, India Cements and Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited with regard to their involvement in spot-fixing and betting.
Report in four monthsThe Mudgal committee has four months to submit its report to the Supreme Court to recommend ways to erase corruption in the IPL. It had its first meeting on October 11.
The committee had requested people having information on the allegations of betting against Mr. Meiyappan and other accused to share the details.
When contacted Mr. Srikkanth said he had interacted with the Mudgal committee and it was a positive meeting.
“They wanted to find out from me, as a former captain and former chairman of the selection committee, how the whole thing can be made corruption-free at all levels. Whatever experience I have in the game, I have given my inputs and suggestions. I understand that they are taking inputs from well-known personalities from across the country.”
