“The only asset I possess is integrity,” the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice S.H. Kapadia has said.
Replying to a letter of congratulation sent to him by jurist V.R. Krishna Iyer, Mr. Justice Kapadia speaks of his humble origins, how he started his career as a Class IV employee and goes on to state that “the only asset I possess is integrity.”
Expressing his resolve to fulfil his obligation to the Constitution in the matter of achieving the goal of inclusive growth, Mr. Justice Kapadia said: “Even as a Judge of the Supreme Court I have used my knowledge of accounts and economics for the welfare of the downtrodden, including tribals and workmen…”
Hailing Mr. Kapadia's appointment as the new Chief Justice of India, Mr. Krishna Iyer had said that it filled him with hope “that we are on the verge of an era of constitutional justice.”
“Your letter inspires me with hope that something will really happen to implement our tryst with destiny as outlined by the Prime Minister [Jawaharlal Nehru] as Independence dawned on our country,” Mr. Krishna Iyer had said. “India is a poor country and poverty jurisprudence and social justice must receive high priority.”
