The issue of protests by people living on the Indo-Bangla border over the long delay in finalising the maps of enclaves held by the two countries was raised in the Lok Sabha by a CPI(M) member on Tuesday.
Uncertainties due to the undemarcated boundary have long been affecting the lives of the people living in these areas near Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, Mr. Mahendra K Roy said during the Zero Hour.
He said the people have now started holding demonstrations and organising sit-ins to protest the “undue delay” in finalising the maps of the two countries which was impacting their daily lives.
Bangladesh has 111 enclaves, India has 51.
Mr. Roy urged the Union Home Ministry to expedite the process of finalising the border maps to clearly identify the areas which fell in India or Bangladesh.
The two countries have recently started working for an early resolution to issues like 6.1 km of undemarcated boundary, enclaves and adverse positions.
