March 15, 2015 01:51 am | Updated 01:51 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Characterising the transforming India-U.S. relationship as a “strategic plus”, U.S. Ambassador Richard Verma on Saturday reiterated the shared India-U.S. vision for the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions of working for a rules based global order.

He was speaking at the India Today conclave on the issue of “World Remade” where he shared the stage with the Chinese Ambassador Le Yucheng.

“Our shared goals include working together and with other interested partners on increasing regional economic integration, promoting accelerated infrastructure connectivity and supporting rules based order,” said Mr. Verma in a reference to other regional partners like Japan and Australia who are keen on India being a part of multilateral arrangements in the Indian Ocean region. This partnership, he clarified “Far from being something designed to provoke..,” could lead to a more peaceful, prosperous and stable region, to the benefit of all.
