An Air India plane, carrying 200 Indian nationals, set off for India from the African island of Djerba on Wednesday. Djerba, located off the coast of Tunisia in the Gulf of Gabes, is the largest island in North Africa.

Deepening conflict in Libya has forced scores of people, including several Indians, to cross the border to Tunisia.

200 Indian nationals evacuated from Libya were seen off to India by Indian Ambassador to Tunisia Nagma Mallick, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday.

A special Air India relief aircraft would bring the Indians home on Thursday.
