An inquiry has been ordered by the Indian Navy after a sailor was found hanging by a baggage chain on ship INS Delhi on Friday night and was later declared dead.

Abhishek Kumar Kushwaha, who hailed from Balia in Uttar Pradesh was a new recruit and reported to the ship after finishing 32 days of leave.

On Friday at 8.15 pm, one of officers of the ship found Kushwaha hanging. The officer raised an alarm and called the medical officer on board, who administered first aid. The sailor was then transferred to INHS Asvini by 8.50 pm where he was declared brought dead by the duty medical officer.

The press release from the Indian Navy has said that the sailor’s kin from Balia have been informed about his death and a board of inquiry has been ordered.
