The government has issued a travel advisory, and asked Indian nationals to avoid all non-essential travel to Syria, following the death of two Indians in a bomb blast on the Syria-Iraq border.
The two Indian Dawoodi Bohras, including a young girl who was on a pilgrimage to the holy city of Karbala in Iraq, were killed in a blast targeting their bus on Sunday evening. The body of the girl, Infiya, will be buried in Najaf, and that of businessman Abbas Masanawala is likely to be taken to India.
The pilgrims had left India on May 24 for a fortnight-long tour, covering holy sites in Syria, Iraq and Jordan, when their bus was set upon by militants, which government sources here said most likely owed allegiance to the Free Syrian Army, which has been trying to isolate Syria through violence, including suicide bomb attacks.
